What is the County Connection saddle?
The County Connection is County Saddlery’s classic dual-flap dressage saddle, handmade in England. It features a narrow twist, extreme close contact leather, and optional leg positions that combine to make the sitting trot almost effortless. It is built on a laminated beechwood tree and flocked with 100% pure wool.
Is the County Connection a monoflap or dual flap saddle?
The County Connection is a dual-flap (classic) dressage saddle. It has a traditional outer flap and inner flap (sweat flap). Riders who prefer the traditional dual-flap feel but want County’s superior craftsmanship, fit, and materials often choose the Connection over the Next Gen monoflap models.
What makes the County Connection’s sitting trot so effective?
The Connection’s sitting trot performance comes from the combination of its narrow twist, seat profile, and extreme close contact leather. The narrow twist allows the rider’s hips to swing freely with the horse’s movement, rather than being blocked by a wide twist. The seat profile places the rider in an optimal position on their seat bones. The extreme close contact leather brings the rider’s leg closer to the horse’s side than conventional dressage saddle leather. Together, these features allow the rider to absorb the horse’s movement through their hips rather than bouncing against it.
What customization options are available for the County Connection?
The County Connection offers more customization options than most dressage saddles:
What sizes does the County Connection come in?
The County Connection is available in the following specifications:
What is the difference between Standard and Forward flap positions?
Yes. The Connection is available in Custom tree widths for horses with unusual back conformation that does not correspond to standard tree width measurements. A County MSA-certified fitter will take a wither tracing and back measurements to determine the correct custom tree width.
How does the County Connection compare to the Next Gen monoflap dressage saddles?
The Connection is County’s classic dual-flap dressage saddle, while the Epiphany, Inspiration, and Intuition are Next Gen monoflap dressage saddles. The monoflap saddles provide closer contact between the rider’s leg and the horse by eliminating the under-flap. The Connection provides excellent contact through its extreme close contact leather, but retains the traditional dual-flap format. Riders who prefer the traditional feel, or who are not ready to transition to a monoflap, often choose the Connection.
Is the County Connection suitable for Grand Prix dressage?
Yes. The County Connection has been used by Grand Prix riders at the highest levels of dressage competition. Its narrow twist and seat profile are particularly well-suited to the demands of Grand Prix movements, where the rider must absorb powerful, expressive movement through their hips without interfering with the horse.
